For summer 2022, Gustavson School of Business, University of Victoria are hosting the ISIBM program for undergraduate students and the Summer Graduate Business Studies (SGBS) program for graduate students.
International Summer Institute for Business Management
The ISIBM program is a 3-4 week intensive summer program that provides students with a fundamental understanding of the business skills and tools needed to succeed in today’s global marketplace. The program combines high-level academics with social and cultural activities in one of the most beautiful cities in Canada. Program fees include on-campus housing, tuition, materials, activity program and meal card.

Program content:
Module 1: Business Communications
Student's capabilities in written communication, oral presentation and non-verbal communication are developed and enhanced within a business and management context. Report and technical writing, presentation preparation, public speaking, business etiquette, negotiation skills, time management and inter-personal communication skills are among the topics emphasized. The ISIBM integrates business communications with service management and students will make presentations on the core business challenges discussed in service management.
Module 2: Business Management
There are three components in this module to help students develop a fundamental understanding of today’s global marketplace through the three steps of business growth:
- Entrepreneurship (starting a business)
- Service Management (Ensuring success)
- International Business (Growing the business)
It is up to the individual student to get the approval of their home university to transfer credit.
Summer Graduate Business Studies
This program is designed exclusively for graduate students and combines an intense academic program with course related fieldtrips and activities. Students can register for the full program (3 modules) or each module individually. Program fees include on-campus housing, tuition, materials, activity program, fieldtrips and a meal card.

Program Content for the SGBS program
-
- Cross-Cultural Management - Understand the complexity and dynamics of doing business across national borders.
- Global Strategy – Develop an understanding of doing business in a global environment.
- Social Entrepreneurship - Following a two-day on-campus introduction, students will make field visits to a variety of social enterprises in the Victoria area, and wrap up with a team-based project that requires students to apply what they have learned through the analysis of a social enterprise case.
